I love thinking of new ideas. Most of us like ideas. But I got frustrated because it was so difficult for me to find out if my idea was good! Everyone says "ideas are easy, execution is everything". That's true, but it's hard for someone with student debt to quit their job and "execute" on an idea. And it's not just student debt - for many of us, it's not easy to launch out full-time into our startup without some sort of proof that we're on the right track. I've tried to work on my ideas in the evenings or on weekends. But the question that always bothered me was "does anybody want what I'm making?".
Crowdfunding sites are great. But you still have to find a way to promote your product! I didn't want to spend all my time optimizing PPC ads or spamming all my friends on social media. I wanted to build products. If people wanted my products, great. If not, I was willing to move onto the next idea.
The thing that always tripped me up was getting my ideas in front of the right people. I wanted a place where my products and ideas could stand or fall on their own. I didn't want their success or my future tied to how well I could self-promote, or how good I was at PPC, or how big my social media following was. I found a few sites that did part of what I wanted, but their focus wasn't on helping founders, and their product had a terrible user experience. So, finally, I started building Seedproof. It's still a long way from where I'd like it to be, but as more awesome people join it gets closer and closer. Let us know how we can make it better!
Right now we are focused on building a platform where founders can get feedback for their ideas before they quit their job or spend a lot of money. We have a platform where every product and every idea gets seen and evaulated. This creates an atmosphere where products and ideas stand (or fall) completely on their own merits. This is a place where founders can find out if they're truly making something that people want. And if not, we're giving them feedback on how to get there.
We are adding more features to help founders who have already created a product. We are also working to get some other organizations involved that can add a lot of value for very early stage companies. We also have some other exciting things coming, but we can't discuss them yet.
